#256 Healing Grief through Movement: with Hana Kamea Kemble
Today’s guest, Hana Kamea Kemble, is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Board-Certified Dance/Movement Therapist specializing in trauma recovery through body-mind integration. With over 22 years of experience, Hana founded a movement-based healing program, The Movement Arc, to help individuals—including those with spinal cord injuries—process grief, release stored emotions, and reconnect with their bodies through dance.
In this conversation, we’ll hear how feelings are designed to move through the body and not stick around in the body and how dance, song, and any form of vibration or rhythm, no matter how micro, creates a movement pathway giving grief and sadness permission to leave the body. Hana shares why trauma and grief get stuck in the body, how that manifests, and how movement, breath, and awareness can help release them. She explains the impact of guilt, how it manifests physically, and why healing is about more than just physical recovery. Her insights offer a fresh perspective on navigating life after paralysis, including how families can acknowledge their emotions and process their own grief while supporting a loved one’s journey. By integrating Somatic Psychology, mindfulness, and expressive arts, Hana provides a pathway to resilience beyond traditional SCI rehabilitation.
